He once faced Treize Kushrenada ( Commander of OZ ) and challenged him to a sword fight. Unfortunately, Wufei was defeated but Treize spared his life. His defeat really shooked him badly and vowed to face Treize once more.
Besides his defeat with Cmdr. Kushrenada, there was yet another tragic moment that happened to him - it was seeing his own colonial star / his own hometown get destroyed. It was done on purpose by Wufei's mentor ( an old woman ) with reasons unknown
